The ultimate flat water paradise on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast
Durankulak is widely regarded as the best windsurf spot in Bulgaria for beginners and intermediate riders. Located at the northernmost point of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, this small village offers a unique shallow lagoon that creates perfect flat water conditions.
The spot features a wide sandy beach with a gradual entry, making it ideal for learning. The thermal wind (NE direction) blows consistently from late morning through afternoon, typically building from 15 to 25 knots. The shallow water extends about 100-150 meters from the shore, allowing beginners to stand and recover easily.

Fly to Varna Airport (VAR). From there, it's a 2-hour drive north along the coast. Car rental is recommended (€25-40/day).
From Varna, take E87 north toward Dobrich, then follow signs to Durankulak. The road is in good condition.
Buses run from Varna to Durankulak several times daily (3 hours, €5). Less convenient with equipment.
